The issue of talent management (TM) has become a major concern of an institution of higher learning (HEI) aiming to remain afloat in the competitive knowledge economy in India. In this paper, the talent management strategies of HEIs in Pune, Maharashtra one of the leading educational hubs in India with 475 colleges according to AISHE 2021-22 are analyzed. The aims of the study are to determine the levels of the implementation of the TM strategies and to find the determinants of the faculty retention in the Pune based HEIs. A stratified random sample of 150 respondents in ten selected institutions was given a quantitative survey in terms of a structured Likert-scale questionnaire. This study has a hypothesis that an excellent TM strategy that includes talent acquisition, training and development, performance management, succession planning, and employee engagement has a positive and significant impact on faculty retention. Findings show that employee engagement (r = 0.74, p < 0.001) and training and development (r = 0.71, p < 0.001) are the most effective predictors of faculty retention with succession planning being highly underdeveloped. The conclusions indicate that the Pune HEIs need to incorporate sound TM frameworks in a systematic manner that is in tandem with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 underpinning the maintenance of quality of the institution and long-term satisfaction of the faculty. |
