| Abstract: |
Internal migration is also a basic means of livelihood of millions of susceptible families in Rajasthan, one of the largest migrant sending states of India. The analytical paper will look at the socio-economic security situation of the migrant populations in Rajasthan, with particular reference to employment patterns, income security, accessibility to social protection schemes, housing conditions, and health vulnerability. The aims of this research would be to determine the socio-economic characteristics of migrant workers of the Rajasthan region and to determine their accessibility to institutional social security provisions. The research design is descriptive-analytical based research design that uses secondary data, which are the Census 2011, Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2023-24, e-Shram portal statistics, and published government reports. The hypothesis is that migrant populations in Rajasthan are much disadvantaged in terms of socio-economic security than non-migrant populations do. Findings indicate that more than 78 percent of Rajasthani migrants work in the informal sector with no written employment contracts, only 15.9 percent receive any portable ration benefits, and most do not receive any health insurance or pension programs. This discussion concurs this with the available literature on structural exclusion and labour vulnerability. The paper concludes by stating that there is an urgent need to have comprehensive, portable, and inclusive of migrants social security systems to deal with such underlying inequities. |
