This research article examines the key sustainable supply chain management challenges in manufacturing industries in India. The research aims to identify and analyze the critical challenges that research practitioners face while adopting a sustainable supply chain in their systems. Through a comprehensive literature review, 25 critical challenges related to the sustainable supply chain were identified. These challenges are categorized into three major themes: (1) organizational challenges, (2) supply chain challenges, and (3) technology challenges. The findings of this research indicate that the successful implementation of sustainable supply chain in India is hindered by a number of organizational, supply chain and technology-related challenges, such as lack of awareness, inadequate collaboration, lack of coordination, poor transparency, inadequate systems and skills, and lack of proper governance. This research provides a unique contribution to the sustainable supply chain management literature by identifying the key challenges that research practitioners face while implementing sustainable supply chain in India. The implications of the findings are discussed in terms of the need for organizations to develop strategies to manage the challenges and to create an environment which is conducive to the successful implementation of sustainable supply chain management. |
