Network and infrastructure security has emerged as a paramount concern in the contemporary digital ecosystem, where organizations increasingly depend on interconnected systems for operational continuity. This paper investigates the evolving threat landscape targeting network infrastructure, including ransomware, phishing, Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), with particular emphasis on critical infrastructure sectors such as healthcare, finance, and telecommunications. The primary objectives are to assess the current state of network infrastructure vulnerabilities globally, evaluate the effectiveness of modern defense mechanisms including Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), AI-driven intrusion detection systems, and security automation, and propose a comprehensive security framework. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology, utilizing secondary data from globally recognized cybersecurity reports published between 2022 and 2025. It is hypothesized that organizations deploying AI-integrated security frameworks with Zero Trust principles experience significantly lower breach costs and faster incident containment. Results confirm that AI-enabled prevention reduced breach costs by USD 2.2 million on average, while ZTA adoption exceeded 61% globally by 2023. The discussion establishes a direct correlation between proactive security investment and reduced organizational risk. The paper concludes that a multi-layered, AI-augmented, Zero Trust-based approach is essential for robust network and infrastructure security in 2025 and beyond. |
