Compounding represents one of the most powerful wealth creation mechanisms in financial planning, particularly through systematic investment approaches. This study examines how systematic investment plans (SIPs) leverage the power of compounding to help Indian investors achieve long-term financial goals. The research investigates the relationship between investment duration, systematic contributions, and wealth accumulation through compounding effects. Using a quantitative methodology, this study analyzes actual market data from Indian mutual funds and equity indices spanning 2014-2024, examining returns across different time horizons and investment amounts. The hypothesis posits that systematic investing with longer tenure generates exponentially higher returns due to compounding compared to irregular investments. Results demonstrate that SIP investors who maintained discipline over 10+ years achieved significantly superior returns (CAGR: 12-15%) compared to lump-sum investors. The power of compounding becomes distinctly evident after the 7-year mark, where returns accelerate exponentially. Discussion reveals that starting early, maintaining consistency, and extending investment tenure are critical factors maximizing compounding benefits. The study concludes that systematic investing combined with compounding creates a robust framework for achieving financial independence, retirement planning, and wealth creation in the Indian context. |
