Cloud computing has transformed the landscape of data storage and management, offering unprecedented scalability, agility, and cost-efficiency through Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) models. However, this paradigm shift introduces unique network security challenges stemming from the distributed nature of cloud infrastructures and the shared responsibility model between service providers and customers. This paper comprehensively examines network security within cloud computing environments, addressing critical challenges such as data breaches, denial-of-service attacks, misconfigurations, and insider threats.
The study explores essential security practices, including network segmentation, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Identity and Access Management (IAM), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and robust data encryption strategies. It also investigates emerging trends shaping the future of cloud security, such as Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Cloud Workload Protection Platforms (CWPP), and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning-based threat detection systems.
The research emphasizes the vital importance of adopting a layered defense-in-depth approach that combines multiple security controls to build resilient cloud security postures. Such an approach is critical for mitigating evolving cyber threats and ensuring business continuity in an increasingly cloud-centric operational landscape. |
